Some Fund Raising Ideas
Every week have the kids at the front of the church selling donated baked goods or day old donated bagels.(they can go to bagel stores, walmart, bakeries...) have a sign up at church - for missions team to Costa Rica.
Start collecting junk from people in the church. Have a drop off spot in the church and give them several weeks to drop things off. Remind the members regularly. Go around to areas of town telling people on a certain day yall will come p/u donated items and use a member of the church's truck to go around p/u these things and then have a huge church sale. Advertise in the paper and put good signs up the kids could make thousands of dollars! (spend money on advertisement- and offer to p/u furniture and take everything- throw away stuff you don't want) ((offer tax deductible receipt))
Have a parent of the kids or the kids make brownies and cookies and wrap them individually and sell outside of walmart or every church service. (with signs for missions trip) Walmart - you will need permission.
Walmart will also let them do a car wash (I know a church had one at the one in houston) IF the kids are organized and do a good job they will make a lot of money on that as well.(the church could donate the things for the car wash, soap, rags, ect...) (sometimes walmart will match what you make!!)
Also a sign up sheet for people that need odd jobs done at their houses or for business owners in the church. Then you send out a team of kids with those talents and they give an offering for the kids mission. (May want to give examples)
Advertise in the community for a kid all day fun day, or 1 day soccer camp, whatever the kids strong suit is and charge a fee per kid and have a limit on how many kids. Good advertisement is the key to some of these things. Taking out an ad in a few papers and putting up good signs.
There are these online pencils called smencils (like pencils) they are smelly pencils and sell them for a 1.50 each at the schools - if anyone has access to elementary schools, that is best.( We know a girl who made 1300.00 profit.)
Mow peoples lawn with a team of kids. Set a price and set up the appointments first. Then split up the kids. Remember to tell them it is for missions.
Write letters to family and friends, and church members you know and tell them they can make a tax deductible gift for your missions trip.
some of our expectations...
Must be saved and actively living for Jesus Christ.
Must have 2 referrals from spiritual authority.
Must always obey leadership.
You represent at least 3 different ministries while you are here and above all Jesus Christ. You are to uphold a higher standard than usual, knowing that everyone is watching you. The house keepers, the store owners, the restaurant waiter, the casual passer by.
This is serious business and we expect you to view it as such.
Although we want you to enjoy yourself and have fun, this is not a vacation but a missions trip. You are coming to work and work hard with the local body of Christ to further the kingdom of God.
If you have a disagreement with anyone please work it out in private asap. If you are unable take it to leadership asap.
Do not go into opposite sex’s quarters
Do not cuss or use foul language or have outbursts of anger
Do not use, buy or touch drugs or drug paraphernalia. It is sold openly at many of the local shops here. Do not make jokes concerning it in public. Completely ignore it.
There will be restricted areas that we will go over with you while you are here. Never go to those areas or into any bars.
One of the greatest things you will be doing here is breaking down wrong mindsets that the locals have about the American “gringos”. This area is full of sin and partying and the locals are used to the gringos being takers and users. By being the opposite, they will begin to see that these “Christian’s are different”.
Smile and be kind while in public. Many times they will not smile back but don’t get tired of smiling. It will pay off. They are watching. Everyone wants to be loved.
If you are asked to do something by leadership please do it with a great attitude, quickly and respectfully.
We reserve the right if at any time during your trip that these rules are broken to send you home at your own expensive.
